Plant made exfoliation: The Konjac Sponge

Ever heard of a konjac sponge? If not, you’re in for a surprise! We absolutely think you need one or two by Pure Sol.

100% plant-based, konjac sponges can be used multiple times for up to a month. The sponge is actually made from a porous edible potato-like root vegetable native to Asia—it’s a cute little blob of plant material. Its a water retaining root that has gentle exfoliating and cleansing benefits for face and body.

Konjac sponges can be used for all skin types. They were originally used in Japan for bathing infants. When we say this is gentle exfoliation, we really mean it. We especially recommended konjac for sensitive skin types for gently unclogging pores without risking a reaction to cleansers. You can use a konjac sponge with your favorite cleanser, but you don’t need to.

Konjac sponges work in a very cool way. On the surface of the sponge is a suspended film of water that gently and comfortably removes dead skin cells and excess sebum, the causes of clogged pores and congested skin. This water film is what makes konjac exfoliation so gentle—the water layer acts as a barrier between the fibers of the sponge and your skin.

The optimal pH value of skin on most of our face and body lies between 4.7 and 5.75. A pH of 7 (that of pure water) is considered neutral. Anything below that is acidic and above it alkaline, so skin's natural pH is mildly acidic. The pH of oily skin tends to range from 4 to 5.2, while the pH of dry skin is typically above 5.5. Which means, more acidic cleansers may help combat acne, and more alkaline-based skin care ingredients can help maintain healthy skin for people with conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Konjac sponges are naturally alkaline, with a pH of 8.4 which is what gives them their natural cleaning ability. It’s also a pH that helps balance both skin types. We recommend using konjac sponges with low pH cleansers like COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.

pH balancing. Kind to you & the environment. Perfect for hypersensitive skin & suitable for skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Removes excess sebum and dead skin cells from acneic skin. Totally worth the hype!
